Today was my first year and obviously my time going to the Amsterdam Motor Show which was hosted at Amsterdam RAI. For a few months now I’ve been monitoring the event on Facebook staying up-to-date with their posts. I must say, finding out about the event itself was quite coincidental. Just as any other day, I was scrolling through my social media timeline and because of friends with mutual interest (cars), I saw that they were interested in going to this particular event. When this popped up on my Facebook timeline I immediately exercised my curiosity and clicked to see what this event was really about. Long story short, the content (car images) that was posted on the event page peaked my interest to the maximum and lead me to purchase a ticket.

Leading up to the event the updates became more regular. Basically everyday there were new posts of cars that were being introduced and that would be showcased at the event. From Lamborghinis to Ferraris to Porsches, to Teslas, to Fords, to Bugattis and much more. If you’re a car junky then you definitely know that the excitement became more overwhelming (especially being a first-timer).

Going to the motor show for the first time I didn’t exactly know what to expect besides walking around seeing exotic cars, super cars, maybe concept cars and possibly other sorts of vehicles. That alone was enough to get me to attend this event.

When I walked into the venue the first thing that caught my attention was the sound of cars accelerating and drifting. The que to get in moved very fast so I wasn’t kept back from rushing in to see where all this sound was coming from. Right at the entrance there was a mini track where there were live shows of cars racing and drifting. When I say cars, I mean super cars such as: Porsches, Mustangs, Ferraris, a Mercedes-Benz AMG and a McClaren. Telling you what happened will do no justice like experiencing it for yourself. The beautiful sound of these monstrous engines roaring, the fresh distinct smell of burnt tires, the excitement as the cars take every corner through the mini track inches away from the walls, all an added bonus with this exciting experience.

But the experience with the live shows didn’t end there. Every hour there was a live show that lasted about 25-30 minutes, but before each show there was an opportunity for spectators to sign-up to be passengers in one of these super cars during the show. That was one of those opportunities I couldn’t let go by without taking advantage of. After standing in line and signing up, my choice of car was the Mercedes-Benz AMG driven by Dennis. The power of this car was surreal, just sitting in this monster of a car, being pushed around each corner roaring and burning tires, all I could do was sit in excitement with a big smile on my face. After doing a few laps, I just wanted to go back and signup for another ride but I had to make time to go around and see the cars the show was showcasing.

I won’t even exaggerate but I made about 3 – 4 laps around the venue looking at the differnt cars over and over. The cars were too beautiful, the experience was too amazing. So many cars I’ve never seen before, so many cars I’ve never touched before and even cars I never sat in before I got to sit in and experiment with their features. For 17 euros I got to experience all of this. I got more than my money’s worth!

One of the other things that was exciting about the event was the random car startups. Every so often someone would start up one of the super cars that were on display and have a short sound show where they would be revving the engine and spectators would get to hear what these cars sound like. As one of the cars revved in the venue, you literally saw a crowd of people shifting their attention to the sound and all rushed towards that direction to be up close and personal. That was definitely an extra added bonus.

I was definitely pleased with my experience at the Amsterdam Motor Show 2018. It was well organized, there were quite a wide variety of cars (even the cars from Fast & The Furious were on display), which were definitely worthwhile seeing.

Thank you for the experience IAMS 2018. If I can, you will definitely be seeing me a next time!
