I Live Where You Carnival

Where I’m from, April isn’t the time we look forward to Spring or Easter (I mean, why would we? It’s sunny and warm all day, E-V-E-R-Y    S-I-N-G-L-E    D-A-Y!), Instead, we look forward to CARNIVAL! Who can blame me?….Who can blame us?

There are years when I’m not on the island in April, and where ever I am in the world I do get happy when April is approaching because that means good weather is here BUT not even the good weather can compare to the excitement I still have of Carnival approaching in St.Maarten! After months of dealing with the winter, you’d think my main excitement would be finally being able to wear some shorts and a t-shirt, but NO! Although I’m not in Sint Maarten, the excitement of being able to still see the festivities and fettin’ online still excites me more!!! You must really think I’m crazy. But trust me, just one…just ONE experience and you’ll definitely be able to relate!

Going back home or not, my mind,  body and soul will be JAMMIN’ to the music and I’ll be watching whether it be physically being there or behind a computer screen! http://sxmcarnival.tv/

How can I not love carnival? How can YOU not love carnival? How can WE not love carnival? If you really want an answer, then all I can tell you is, “NOT LOVING CARNIVAL MEANS YOU’VE NEVER EXPERIENCED CARNIVAL!”. I’ve never met anyone who experienced carnival for themselves and didn’t fall in love with the tradition, the environment and the genuine beauty of it.

Carnival is more than just colorful costumes. Carnival is more than just tons of people walking around entertaining or being entertained. Carnival is more than just loud music. Carnival is where people express themselves in different forms. People get to showcase who they are, what they stand for, the CULTURE, through: uniquely crafted colorful costumes, new music produced every year, their voice (whether speeches or performing their songs). Carnival is a time of unification, a time where everyone comes together in the village and in the streets (because no one place is big enough to contain the excitement)…………

……..I can already imagine and feel the music taking a hold of me, taking a hold of my hips, swinging them left to right, back to front, pulling me lower, throwing me in the air, waving my hands!!!! I can hear the words becoming one with me, taking control of my thoughts, my lips starting to mumble until I start singing out loud!! I can already feel the excitement of JAMMIN’ with my people, not just my friends, but with EVERYONE who comes to St.Maarten to celebrate and enjoy carnival. Because that’s what it’s about…..TOGETHERNESS!!

Just close your eyes and imagine!! Imagine…being among thousands of people who just wanna have a good time. Enjoying the different shows that are in the carnival village. Performances by local legends, great local TALENTS, local GENIUSES. Imagine….

NOW STOP IMAGINING AND COME EXPERIENCE…..THE EXCITEMENT…..THE MEMORIES…THE FETE! COME AND EXPERIENCE ST.MAARTEN CARNIVAL!
